Jacob C Meyer MD

Dr. Meyer was born and raised in a small town in Northwest Ohio.  He received his undergraduate training at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with majors in Chemistry and Comparative Religion.  He was also presented with the John Schoff Millis award for the graduating student with the highest academic record in the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as the Hippolyte Gruener Award for the most outstanding graduating senior in Chemistry.

Dr. Meyer continued at Case Western Reserve for his medical school training, during which he spent time doing medical mission work and studying tropical medicine in the East African country of Tanzania.  After finishing his medical degree, Dr. Meyer completed a 1 year internship in Internal Medicine at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.  He then moved to North Carolina for his ophthalmology residency at Wake Forest University, where he was honored as Co-Chief Resident during his final year.  Dr. Meyer then pursued subspecialty training in vitreoretinal surgery at The Retina Institute / Retina Consultants of St. Louis, where he trained in the most advanced techniques and treatments for retinal diseases. 

Dr. Meyer has led several research studies involving retinal diseases, including retinal vascular lesions, macular holes, and vitreo-macular traction.  He has given research presentations at regional and national meetings and published research articles in both national and international journals.  Dr. Meyer is excited to contribute his expertise to Virginia Retina Consultants mission of preserving and improving the vision of patients in Central Virginia.

Dr. Meyer's interests outside the office include spending time with his wife and daughter as well as hiking, biking, boating, skiing, and basically any other outdoor activity in all seasons of the year.

Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Member of the American society of Retina Specialists, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, and Virginia Medical Society.
